Dr. Ray Powell, MD is a triple board certified physician that specializes in the treatment of Obesity as a disease. He has been practicing full-time Bariatrics in Northern California for over 12 years in his 5 Dr. Powell's medical practices
Dr. Powell began his medical career as a board certified Emergency Medicine Physician practicing full-time Emergency Medicine in South Carolina and California. Everyday in the emergency room he would see the direct impact of patients being overweight or obese and how it caused or worsened their medical complaints and disease processes.
He started to work part-time with his dad, Dr. Richard J. Powell, MD, in his Medical Weight Loss Clinics in Northern California. He started working just one evening a week and it quickly grew in to a full-time passion. He left emergency medicine in 2004 and has since become board certified in Bariatric Medicine (the medical management of obesity as a disease) and as well as a board certified Physician Nutrition Specialist.
In treating thousands of patients over the last 12 years Dr. Powell has developed a curriculum of learning centered around a unique word that he created called the Sneal. It is a way of teaching his patients when, how, and what to eat.
